Glock 23 vs. 27
Gotta question for you Glock fans.
I currently have a Glock G22. Great pistol, just a little too big to conceal carry. What are your opinions on the G23 vs. the G27? I know there is only about a .5" difference in length between the two. My frame: 6'0" 185 lbs. Thanks guys. |
Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
The 27 is my carry piece but I don't have any 23 experience for comparison. I do love my 27 though.

Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
Ive personally owned the G27.... The size is perfect for CC... your not going to get much smaller than that unless you can get your hands on the glock .380 which is illegal to import to the US.
Its a bit snappier as opposed to the 45 or 9mm so a little extra training is needed to keep the muzzle on target after your first shot. |
Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
Thanks guys.
Do you feel that the .5" that you save in length for the 27 is worth losing 4 rounds of mag space? |
Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
Instead of buying a new handgun (at least because of size), consider a new holster. The Glock Sport holster is less than $20. Here is a link to Lone Wolf Distributing who sells them.
http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=58 Here is a link on the discussion OF the Glock Sport holster over on Glock Talk forum. http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/show...ort+Holster%27 Perhaps you don't NEED a new smaller firearm. Perhaps all you need is a better holster. The Glock Sport holster should tuck this full sized Glock into your waist much closer, making it CCW compatible. |

9 rounds is not a whole lot these days... but you can put the clip from the 23 into the 27 giving you the same amount of rounds... also most folks who buy the 27 find that there is nowhere to put the pinky finger, making it uncomfortable... however you can remedy this by buying +1 or +2 clip extenders. This however makes the CC kinda awkward for some... My friend says go with the 23... but they are both good guns. |
Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
+1 for above post, use g23 magazine for your backup. you will carry a spare won't you?
|
Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
summer carry presently= g27 with magazine pinky extension +1 round, g23 magazine as backup. if i really need to "hide the gun", just go with stock mag, but still carry full size backup mag. utilizing an IWB holster. and then ask, Does this make me look fat???

Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
I have a 33, (same size, frame as the 26 & 27) and a 23, I carry the 33 EVERYWHERE, in my front pocket. 19 & 23 sticks out. It is a great CC pistol. I wear shorts all summer long, no one ever notices it. The size difference is HUGE when it comes to concealed carry.

Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
Thanks a lot for the help guys.
I think I just need to go check them out at the local gun shop and see how they feel in my hand. I am kinda leaning towards the G23, but am afraid it won't be too much smaller than my G22. It's just so darn ahrd to conceal my G22, it's a beast. If I were to get a G27, I would get the extension. |

G27 here...makes it easier with IWB holster to SIT DOWN. That extra 1/2 inch can be troublesome with the G23. Also I recommend the GAP Enterprises extension (or none) rather than the Pierce extension. With the finger grooves and palm swell in the Hogue grip and tucking the little finger underneath, I get all grip I need to handle this beast. My CCW set-up: G27 (or G33) with GAP extension, cut-down Hogue grip, carried in a F.I.S.T. Ultrathin kydex IMB holster...
BTW, I also use heavier recoil springs from Wolff Gunsprings. |
Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
I'll chime in since I have the G22, G23, and 2 of the G27's. My duty weapon is the G22, but I carry one of the G27's as an off duty backup religiously. The G23 is a lot more to pack around when you are doing it every day. Get the 27, you won't regret it. I also have the finger extension and an IWB holster. Love it.

Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
Get the 27 hands down!...and forget the extension. The idea is to be compact as possible. You will get use to curling your little finger under.
I love the size of this firearm...small enough to carry and large enough that it's still a pleasure to shoot. |
Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
Again, thanks a lot fellas.
I think what I am going to have to do is just go to the local gun shop and see how each feels in my hands. I would LOVE to have both, BUT am only going to be purchasing one for now. So far, the results seem pretty mixed. I will do some more DD. |
Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
Glock 27 huh? That's in .40S&W?
That'll give me something to do with my thousands of rounds of .40SW... |

Yea, I already have a G22, and that's also a .40S&W. So, I figured I'd better stick with the same caliber. |

I didn't have any pictures of my 27 and thought that had to be fixed. Not the most beautiful pistol on earth but purposeful.

That's a great shot Tom. You could take a picture of a pile of dog poop and make it look good. I really appreciate it. In the end, I think I am going to go with the G27 and maybe pick up a G23 later down the road. I just fear that the G23 won't feel much smaller than my current G22, and that is what I am going for. Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
the 27 is a hell of a subcompact. The best holster is the blackhawk S.E.R.P.A piece, not the best for conceal carry if you want a tucked shirt.
You can not have the 27 without the clip extenders. It's a must for control, accuracy, and gives you an extra round. There are some other mods to grab for it, the protruded slide release and the extended clip release. Toss on some trijicon night sights and a butt plug in the bottom and you've got a golden weapon, but it's really black ;) One more thing, I found that by filing some of the plastic near the trigger ring next to the middle finger, I can achieve an even more contoured and comfortable grip. All in all I love that gun and the holster I told you about. edit *** here's the holster, I use the hip paddle... |

Awesome writeup rogold. I really appreciate it. I actually have a Blackhwak Serpa holster for my G22. I use the paddle holster during the winter months. It's a graet holster, no doubt. Since I am going to be using this gun as my main concealed carry weapon, I am going to want an IWB holster. I have found a few decent ones at decent prices, including these: http://www.blade-tech.com/In-the-Wai...ED-pr-820.html http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG3.as...=3832&GunID=51 http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG3.as...=3777&GunID=51 I'll probably spring for a kydex holster. Without having a true "safety", it is imperative to me that the trigger is completely covered and the gun is secure. GG |
Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
a G27 with 4 magazines just went for $450 over at calguns. Am I jealous, YES.

Re: Glock 23 vs. 27
I took the G26 and the 10/22 out a couple mornings ago to my private range.
Nice morning for shooting! Very private! http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/w...E/IMG_0962.jpg On the way. http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/w...E/IMG_0963.jpg Nobody around, think I'll shoot here! http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/w...E/IMG_0960.jpg Bullseye! http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/w...E/IMG_0957.jpg |

Wow that looks awesome EE. Looks like an amazing day to go shooting. I went to my local gunshop and held both the 23 and the 27. The 27, although it is only .5" smaller in length, just feels and looks so much smaller. It's hard to describe. I think I am going to go with the 27 and buy the 23 later. They were asking $580 for the 27 (NIB with night sights). |

Yes it was a great day to shoot! I was practicing at 15 yards and 40 yards with the 10/22. As you can see, this is rifle country and handguns are about usless at open ranges like this. What looks like 100 yards is really more like a quarter mile. Here's a picture of a close friend of mine, Mags. http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/w...E/IMG_0956.jpg |
